citydev.brussels and Kevlinx Data Centers strengthen Belgium’s digital future

citydev.brussels and Kevlinx Data Centers strengthen Belgium’s digital future with the first high-density multi-tenant data campus in Brussels

Brussels, November 6, 2025 — citydev.brussels reaffirms its role as a catalyst for economic and technological development through its collaboration with Kevlinx Data Centers, which is building Belgium’s first high-density, multi-tenant data center campus on the 2.5 hectare Galilei-site of citydev.brussels in Neder-Over-Heembeek, Brussels. The project, enabled by a long-term land lease granted by citydev.brussels, now stands as a strategic driver of local employment, knowledge development and stronger European digital integration. The data center will create around 150 new jobs during construction and operations.

A new benchmark for digital infrastructure

The Kevlinx campus in Brussels marks a turning point for Belgium’s datacenter infrastructure landscape. While conventional data centers typically offer power densities between 6 and 12 kW per rack, Kevlinx is introducing infrastructure capable of supporting 60 kW per rack and beyond, up to 150 kW with liquid cooling. This makes Brussels home to Belgium’s first high-density multi-tenant data center campus and one of the few in Europe designed to deliver such compute performance with a focus on efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The facility is designed for AI, research, data analytics and high-performance computing, enabling Belgian and European organisations to process their data locally and securely, without relying on infrastructure abroad. In doing so, it delivers true digital sovereignty: locally operated, giving organisations full control over their data and operation.

Building a local ecosystem of talent and innovation

Kevlinx is actively collaborating with Brussels universities and research institutions, and to attracting and retaining Belgian technology talent, including experts with international experience from global data center players. Its Brussels campus serves as a centre of excellence within the company, working in close synergy with its headquarters in the Netherlands. Building on the experience gained in Belgium, Kevlinx will expand its data center footprint across Europe. In addition, the company works with leading Belgian and international engineering, construction and service partners, reinforcing the regional value chain and fostering knowledge transfer within the Brussels-Capital Region.

Benjamin Cadranel, CEO of citydev.brussels: “Our collaboration with Kevlinx shows that Brussels attracts and grows innovative companies. By anchoring talent, knowledge and technology here, we strengthen our position as both Belgium’s economic centre and its digital capital.”

A sustainable, future-ready campus

The Kevlinx campus is being developed in accordance with international sustainability and efficiency standards. Featuring advanced cooling systems, heat recovery technologies and renewable energy sourcing, the facility will rank among Europe's most efficient data centers. Its modular design allows it to scale seamlessly with future compute demand.

Eric Boonstra, CEO of Kevlinx Data Centers: “We’re not just building a data center, we’re building a platform for the future. Working with citydev.brussels has enabled us to create a sustainable, locally anchored infrastructure that provides organisations with the compute power they need today and the talent they’ll rely on tomorrow.”

A strategic project for Brussels and Europe

With Kevlinx, Brussels becomes a central hub for high-density and AI-driven digital infrastructure in Europe. The campus not only strengthens Belgium’s technological resilience, but also creates a European hub for knowledge and innovation, bringing together local expertise and international experience, a major step towards digital autonomy and sustainable growth.

Philippe Close, Mayor of The City of Brussels: "Brussels is a knowledge-driven city. We can already boast several centres of excellence in research and innovation, thanks in part to our universities. This new collaborative effort between the public and private sectors will help us turn AI into an opportunity for our economy and our talent, anchored in a sustainable digital ecosystem that creates jobs."
